Three Dollar Quill

I went into a fugue state, and now the refactoring is done. I haven't decided yet whether to go for the lazy loading stuff, and I'd rather move forward with other tasks, before coming back to this and making the call one way or the other.

Still need to work on linting, but I'm not feeling up for it right now. In the name of getting something done, I'll work on the stubs for 1ML.
