I'm doing prep work for the helper code: specifically, figuring out which of the remaining symbols are some kind of combining character. The answer is: more than I thought, and I already thought "most of them".

The prep work also convinced me to reorganize the existing work a bunch, so that's... cool...

Anyway, I drastically need to rest my eyes, so I'm going to wrap up early tonight.
