I was wiped out like an hour ago, so I don't think I'm going to come up with anything big in the next half hour.

I just...

I'm so tired of listening to people talking about how we've got to be using The Slot Machine That Sometimes Induces Psychosis, because other people are using it more, and we don't want to be using it less.

And meanwhile it makes statements that aren't even coincidentally correct.

And meanwhile meanwhile, I remain gobsmacked by the implication that the thing holding back coding projects is the amount of code that can be produced, or rather, the rate of such production, or rather, typing speed. Perhaps such sentiments simply originate from not paying attention to how code is actually produced; from my many project updates on this blog, I have simply started taking it as read that a novel design will take at least a week to flesh out, followed by a few hours of vigorous typing that will produce a rough artifact with a solid design, ready to refine along whatever metrics are desired.

But ultimately, it keeps circling back to, why the fuck is this being treated as an end in itself? The time when "a computer made this" was a solid advertising gimmick was apparently from 1985 to 1988 (all right, perhaps "a computer actually made this" had legs through the 90s), and if you want to claim some kind of productivity benefit, then you'd better figure out how to measure productivity, hm? Such knowledge will even be useful in a few years time when this whole thing messily implodes.

I don't want to be complaining like this, but I think the blame has to go on the people who will not let us stop thinking about this bullshit.

Anyway, I'm going to try to sleep soon.

Good night.
