Three Dollar Quill

Okay. Top-level wrappers are somewhat simpler. There's more to be done, but I'm not sure how to go about it yet, so I'm just going to let it stew for a bit.

Basically, I wrote some of this helper code with somewhat strange semantics, and I'm trying to figure out how to make it do things when it should, and not do things when it shouldn't. More or less.

I don't want to think about this any more right now, though, so I'm going to get ready for bed.
